LEGO 60401 Construction Steamroller LEGO Audio & Braille Building Instructions for the LEGO City Great Vehicles set "Construction Steamroller". Make new roads for the great vehicles of LEGO City with the coolest steamroller in town. This mighty road machine has large chunky tires for ultimate grip and a big shiny drum for powerful road rolling. So put on your hard hat, hop aboard and roll like a pro. Let's go, construction hero! On the box cover, the construction worker is steamrolling the sandy foundation for a new street in LEGO City. The brown quartz sand surrounding the steamroller is still piled up in heaps, a rather messy sight! But behind the machine, the huge grey rolling drum has already created a smooth surface, preparing everything for the asphalt layer. The body of the steamroller is black and yellow, and the tires and the open driver's cab are black. The construction worker is operating the steamroller with a smile on his face, he clearly is a professional who knows what he is doing. The construction site is fenced in with a corrugated iron fence and a barrier fence. There is a construction site warning sign at the back, informing road users of the works. In the background, there is an apartment building and a skyscraper against a pale blue and yellow sky. Let's start building! Open the box. This can be tricky; ask someone to help you! The box contains 1 booklet with visual building instructions, 2 unnumbered bags, and 3 loose pieces: 3 plastic wheels 5x5x2 with 6 holes. Carefully open all bags. Before you start building, ask a sighted person to help you sort the pieces by color. This makes finding the correct pieces even easier! First, we will build the construction worker Minifigure. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 bright orange pair of legs, and 1 vibrant yellow, medium stone grey and dark azure blue upper part of the body. Put the upper body on the legs. Make sure that the arms and toes are pointing in the same direction. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 bright red hard hat, and 1 bright yellow Minifigure head. Put the head on the body. Put the hard hat on top. Find 1 mud grey hairpiece with short straight hair and sideburns. When the construction worker is not on the job, you can exchange the hard hat for the hairpiece. Make sure that the surroundings are safe before taking off the hard hat! Remember: safety first! Find 1 silver metallic shovel. Snap the handle into the Minifigure's hand, shovel part to the bottom. The construction worker Minifigure is finished! Great job! He is wearing orange work pants, blue gloves, a grey shirt and a bright yellow sleeveless safety vest on top. The safety vest is a button-up vest with a V-neck and horizontal reflective stripes. He is wearing safety goggles, and he has dirt smudges all over his face, but he is smiling nonetheless. It seems like he really enjoys his job! Next, we will build the construction steamroller. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 black plate 4x8, and 1 bright yellow tile 1x2 with angled top handle. Put the plate 4x8 horizontally on the table. Put the tile 1x2 vertically centered on the rightmost column, handle to the left. Find 1 medium stone grey brick 2x2. Put it to the left of the previous piece. This means it sits on the 2 middle rows on the second and third column from the right. Find 2 dark stone grey bricks 1x2 with two connectors on long side. Put 1 horizontally to the left of the previous piece's back row, connectors to the back. Put the other one horizontally in front of the previous piece, connectors to the front. Find 1 medium stone grey brick 2x2. Put it to the left of the previous piece. Find 2 bright yellow inverted roof tiles 2x3, 25°. Put them next to each other on the leftmost column, slopes overhanging to the left. If done correctly, these two pieces cover the leftmost column. Find 2 bright yellow technic beams 7m. (7m means that this piece is about 7 knobs long. It is a rounded beam with 7 round holes.) Hold 1 horizontally in front of you so that the holes are running from front to back. Identify the third and fourth hole from the left. Insert the two connectors pointing to the front into these 2 holes. If done correctly, the beam rests on the frontmost row, touching the inverted roof tile on the left while being flush with the rightmost edge. Repeat symmetrically at the back. Find 2 medium stone grey connector pegs 2m with middle ring. Insert 1 from the back into the leftmost hole of the previous piece, 1/2 sticking out towards the back. Repeat symmetrically at the front, 1/2 sticking out towards the front. Find 2 bright yellow plates 2x8. Put 1 horizontally on the backmost 2 rows, leaving the leftmost column empty. Note that the back row of this piece will only connect with 2 knobs. Put the other one horizontally in front of the previous piece. Make sure that the leftmost column remains empty. If done correctly, the left ends of the technic beams and the top handle of the plate 1x2 with handle are not covered by these plates. Find 1 dark stone grey plate 1x4. Put it vertically on the rightmost edge of the 2 previous pieces. Find 2 dark stone grey plates 1x2 with downward ladder. Put 1 horizontally on the backmost row to the left of the previous piece, ladder overhanging to the back. Repeat symmetrically on the frontmost row, ladder overhanging to the front. Find 1 dark stone grey plate 1x4. Put it vertically to the left of the 2 previous pieces. Find 2 dark stone grey plates 1x4. Put 1 horizontally on the backmost row to the left of the previous piece. Repeat symmetrically on the frontmost row. Find 1 pale ocher yellow roof tile 2x2, 45°. Put it between the right halves of the 2 previous pieces, slope to the right. If done correctly, there are 3 empty columns to the left of this piece. Next, we will build the rear bumper. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 bright yellow plate 2x6 with 2 rounded corners, and 1 transparent red plate 1x2. Put the plate 2x6 horizontally on the table, rounded corners to the front. Put the plate 1x2 horizontally centered on the front row. Find 2 bright yellow quarter-arched tiles 2x2. Put 1 to the left of the previous piece, matching the round shape of the left edge. Repeat symmetrically on the right. The rear bumper is finished! Great job! Turn it vertically so that the rounded corners are to the left. Mount it on the leftmost column, symmetrically overhanging to the front and back, 1 row overhanging to the left. Find 1 black roof tile 2x3, 25°. Put it horizontally on the 2 middle rows directly to the left of the roof tile 2x2, slope to the left. If done correctly, the 2 knobs on the leftmost edge remain empty. Find 1 bright yellow plate 2x2. Put it on top of the two roof tiles. Find 1 black inverted double roof tile 4x6 with 3 holes. Put it horizontally centered to the right of the previous piece, slopes to the left and right. If done correctly, its left slope and the slope of the roof tile 2x2 are touching. The right slope is hovering above the right ends of the technic beams 7m. Find 1 dark stone grey plate 2x3. Put it horizontally centered on the leftmost column of the previous piece and the plate 2x2 to its left. Collect the following 3 pieces: 2 bright yellow plates 1x2 with top clasp, and 1 transparent red plate 1x2. Put the transparent plate 1x2 vertically on the previous piece's leftmost column. Put 1 plate with top clasp horizontally to the right of the previous piece's back knob, clasp to the right. Put the other plate with top clasp horizontally in front of the previous piece, clasp to the right. Find 1 black windscreen 4x5 with 2 knobs. Put it horizontally on the leftmost edge, slope to the left, 2 extensions with knobs to the right. Even though this piece is a windscreen piece, it will serve as the vehicle rear in this case. Find 2 black one-stepped curve tiles 2x2. Put 1 on the 2 leftmost columns of knobs, curve to the back. This means it will sit directly to the right of the previous piece's sloped part. Put the other one in front of the previous piece, curve to the front. Find 2 black smooth roof tiles 1x1x⅔. Put 1 on the frontmost row directly to the right of the previous piece, slope to the right. Repeat symmetrically on the backmost row. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 dark stone grey seat 2x2x2, and 1 black and bright yellow small steering wheel with plate 1x2. Put the small steering wheel vertically centered on the second column from the right, steering wheel to the left. This means that the high column on the rightmost edge remains empty, and the steering wheel sits on the first lower row from the right. Put the seat to the left of the steering wheel, seatback to the left. Collect the following 3 pieces: 1 dark stone grey grille tile 1x2, and 2 transparent flat tiles 1x1. Put the grille tile 1x2 vertically centered on the rightmost column of the structure. Put 1 flat tile 1x1 in front of the previous piece, and the other one behind it. Find 1 black driver's cab 4x6x3 with 4 top knobs. Hold it so that it's arching towards the top, knobs to the top. Make sure the 2 bottom shafts are on the left and right. Snap the left bottom shaft into the 2 clasps pointing to the top, and then fold the driver's cab down. The right bottom shaft will rest on the grille tile on the right edge. Find 1 dark stone grey rounded plate 1x2. Put it vertically on the left column at the top of the driver's cabin. Find 1 transparent bright orange bulb 1x1 with shaft. Insert its shaft into the previous piece's back knob. Find 1 black quadruple connector 3m with cross hole. Hold it flat in front of you so that the connectors are pointing to the front and back. Insert 2 of its connectors from the front into the 2 rightmost holes of the technic beam 7m at the front. If done correctly, this piece is mounted to the right of the downwards ladder at the front side surface, its 2 remaining connectors sticking out towards the front. Find another black quadruple connector 3m with cross hole. First, turn the steamroller from left to right. Now, the smooth sloped side with rear bumper is to the right, and the driver's cabin is on the left. Insert 2 connectors of the current piece from the front into the 2 leftmost holes of the technic beam 7m at the front, 2 connectors sticking out towards the front. Find 1 bright yellow technic beam 7m. Hold it horizontally, its holes running from front to back. Insert the 2 empty connectors of the previous piece into the 2 rightmost holes of the technic beam, 5 holes overhanging to the left. Find 2 bright red connector pegs 1m with knob. Insert 1 from the front into the previous piece's second hole from the left. Insert the other one from the front into the fifth hole from the left. This is also the hole that is directly next to the 2 holes filled with the quadruple connector. Next, we will build the rolling drum. Collect the following 2 pieces: 1 dark stone grey plastic wheel 5x5x2 with 6 round holes, (This was one of the 3 pieces that came loose in the box. Do not confuse it with the 2 rubber tires!) and 1 medium stone grey technic beam 3m with 2 connectors. Put the wheel 5x5x2 flat on the table. Its middle section has two different sides: one is flat with holes, and the other one has a protruding middle ring with holes. Make sure that the flat side with holes is to the top. Put the technic beam 3m from the top on the previous piece by inserting its connectors into 2 holes that are opposite of each other. Find 1 black connector peg 2m with middle ring. Insert it from the top into the round hole at the top surface of the previous piece, 1/2 sticking out towards the top. Find another dark stone grey plastic wheel 5x5x2 with 6 round holes. Hold it so that its protruding middle ring is to the bottom. To mount it, insert the connector peg from the previous step into the middle hole of the wheel. Next, we will build 2 connecting axles. Collect the following 4 pieces: 2 black connector pegs 2m with middle ring, and 2 bright red tubes 2m with middle slot. Hold 1 tube horizontally, and insert 1 connector peg from the right into the right hole, 1/2 protruding to the right. Repeat with the 2 remaining pieces. Find another 2 black connector pegs 2m with middle ring. Insert them into the left holes of the 2 tubes. The 2 connecting axles are finished! Insert 1 from the top into one of the empty holes of the topmost wheel, tube and 1 connector sticking out towards the top. Insert the other one from the top into the hole opposite of the first connecting axle, again tube and 1 connector sticking out to the top. Find 1 dark stone grey plastic wheel 5x5x2 with 6 round holes. Turn it so that the side with the protruding middle ring is to the top. Lower the wheel centered on the 2 empty connectors of the connecting axles, making sure that the outer diameters of all wheels are flush. Find 2 medium stone grey connector pegs 2m with middle ring. Flip the rolling drum on its side so that the smooth round side is touching the table. Make sure it doesn't roll away from you! Insert 1 connector peg from the right into the middle hole on the right side, 1/2 sticking out towards the right. Repeat symmetrically on the left. The rolling drum is finished! Well done! Turn it vertically so that the connectors are pointing to the front and back. Put it behind the technic beam 7m that is protruding to the left. Insert the front connector from the back into the third hole from the left, rolling drum towards the back. Find 1 bright yellow technic beam 7m. Turn the steamroller from left to right again so that the rolling drum is to the right and the smooth sloped vehicle rear is to the left. Hold the technic beam horizontally, holes running from front to back, and put it on the connector of the rolling drum and the two connectors to the right of the downward ladder. Make sure that the beam's 2 rightmost holes remain empty. Find 2 bright red connector pegs 1m with knob. Insert 1 from the front into the previous piece's second hole from the right. Insert the other one from the front into the fifth hole from the right. Now, we will assemble the 2 rear wheels. Collect the following 4 pieces: 2 bright yellow wide rims with hole and spokes, and 2 black wide off-road tires. Put the rims into the tires. The 2 rear wheels are finished! Snap the wheels on the 2 remaining connectors pointing to the front and back. These connectors are below the smooth sloped vehicle rear. Find 2 bright yellow flat tiles 1x6. (These pieces are printed.) Mount them upright horizontally on the 2 technic beams 7m that are holding the rolling drum. Make sure they are centered on the technic beams. These pieces are printed with black welding seams and rivets as well as caution flags with 2 bold black stripes on the left and right sides. You have finished building the entire set! Fantastic job! Now it is time to get your hands dirty and start your first steamrolling job: make sure your worker is wearing safety gear. Then, shovel up the material, seat the construction worker in the steamroller, and start rolling! Make sure to observe the necessary safety measures and take great care when flattening the future road surfaces. LEGO City needs impeccable streets! Full steam ahead! Enjoy!
