LEGO 71398 Dorrie's Beachfront Expansion Set

LEGO Audio & Braille Building Instructions for the LEGO Super Mario Expansion set "Dorrie's Beachfront Expansion Set".

Note: This is an expansion set. The LEGO Mario and LEGO Luigi figures are not included. The LEGO Super Mario Starter course is required for play. Note that you might have to connect Mario with the free LEGO Super Mario App and update him in order to get the full range of sounds, features and reactions to the different elements in this set. However, the basic functions and reactions also work without updating, so you can also do that later if you wish.

In case you are using the app with your LEGO Mario sets, you will be able to register this set by scanning a sticker code after you have built Dorrie. So let's get started! It's LEGO Mario time again!

Take a coin-collecting ride on the beach with Dorrie! Jump on the friendly character and start exploring. Toss the green shell to defeat the Huckit Crab, then search for 1, 2, 3 Blocks: destroy the sandcastle, splash in the water fountain and wobble the tree! Challenge friends to beat your best coin score, and then rebuild to create an exciting new level.

This fun LEGO Mario expansion set includes the following modules that you can combine any way you like: 1 Dorrie figure, 1 Sandcastle module with Block 1, 1 Water Fountain module with Block 2, 1 Launcher module with Green Shell, 1 Huckit Crab module, 1 Tree module, 1 Small Water Fountain module, and 1 Grass module. These modules do not have a fixed order. At the end, or whenever you have a few modules finished, you can use the connecting plates of different lengths to build your very own course!

Open the box. This can be tricky; ask someone to help you!

The box contains 1 booklet with general information on the different LEGO Mario sets, and 3 bags with numbers printed on them. Ask a sighted person to help you find the correct bag!

Carefully open bag number 1 and any small sub-bags in it. This bag contains all bricks and pieces for the Dorrie figure.

Before you start building, ask a sighted person to help you sort the pieces by color. This makes finding the correct pieces even easier!

First, we will build the Dorrie figure.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright blue plate 4x4,

and 1 white plate 2x4.

Put the plate 2x4 horizontally on the table.

Put the plate 4x4 centered on top. Make sure there is 1 row overhanging to the back and 1 row overhanging to the front.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright blue plate 2x6,

and 1 bright blue plate 2x8.

Put the plate 2x6 horizontally centered underneath the frontmost row, 1 row overhanging to the front, 1 column overhanging to the left and right each.

Put the plate 2x8 horizontally centered underneath the backmost row, 1 row overhanging to the front, 2 columns overhanging to the left and right.

These two plates will later be Dorrie's legs and feet! But for now, it only is important that you keep this orientation of the structure.

Find 2 white wedge plates 2x2 with 45° corner and 3 knobs.

Skip the rightmost knob of the front row, and put 1 on the frontmost row, cut-off corner to the front right.

Put the other one to the left of the previous piece, cut-off corner to the front left. Again, the leftmost knob of the front row remains empty.

Find 4 bright blue wedge tiles 2x2x⅔ with curve and 45° pointy end. (Do not confuse them with the wedge tiles 1x2 that only have one cut-off corner.)

First, identify the 2 feet at the front of the structure. At the moment, they only consist of 2 knobs on the front left and 2 knobs on the front right.

Put 1 wedge tile on the front foot on the right, 1 column overhanging to the right. This means that the curved pointy end is overhanging.

Repeat symmetrically on the left, curved pointy end overhanging to the left.

Now, put 1 wedge tile on the 2 rightmost knobs at the backmost edge of the structure, curved pointy end overhanging to the right.

Repeat symmetrically on the left, curved pointy end overhanging to the left.

These will be Dorrie's feet!

Collect the following 4 pieces:

2 bright blue flat tiles 1x1,

and 2 bright blue quarter-circle tiles 1x1.

Identify the 2 empty knobs directly next to the previous piece. Put 1 flat tile 1x1 on the front knob of the two.

Put 1 quarter-circle tile 1x1 behind the previous piece, quarter-circle to the back right.

Repeat with the two remaining pieces on the right: flat tile 1x1 on the front knob of the rightmost column at the back, quarter-circle tile 1x1 behind that, quarter-circle to the back left.

Find 2 bright blue plates 1x1.

Put 1 to the right of the previous piece on the backmost row.

Repeat symmetrically on the right. If done correctly, there are only 2 empty knobs between the two most recent pieces.

Find 4 bright blue inverted curve disks 2x2. (Do not confuse them with regular round tiles.)

Now, flip the structure upside down. Make sure to keep the current orientation: the longer legs are at the back, the shorter legs at the front, all legs still pointing to the left and right.

Mount 1 inverted curve disk on the 2 backmost rows on the right edge, but make sure to leave the rightmost column empty. In other words, the pointy end remains empty.

Repeat symmetrically on the left. Again, leave the leftmost column, that means the pointy end, empty.

Mount another inverted curve disk on the right leg at the front. Again, the pointy end remains empty.

Repeat symmetrically on the left, pointy end remaining empty.

Flip the structure right side up again, and keep the orientation of the legs: longer legs at the back, all legs pointing to the left and right.

Next, we will make a small sub-part of Dorrie.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright blue plate 1x2,

and 1 white bottom angle plate 1x2 - 2x2 with 4 side knobs.

Put the angle plate horizontally on the table, 4 side knobs pointing to the back.

Put the plate 1x2 horizontally on the 2 regular knobs.

Mount this small part horizontally in the middle of the backmost row, 4 side knobs pointing to the back.

Find 1 bright blue plate 2x4.

Put it horizontally centered in front of the previous piece. This means that it will be mounted on the second and third row from the back.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

1 bright blue plate 2x4,

and 2 bright blue plates 1x3.

Put the plate 2x4 vertically in front of the previous piece on the 2 middle columns.

Put the 2 plates 1x3 vertically to the left and right of the previous piece.

Find 1 bright blue wedge tile 2x2x⅔ with curve and 45° pointy end.

Put it on the 2 frontmost knobs of the structure, pointy end overhanging to the front.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

1 bright blue right wedge tile 1x2 with curve and 45° cut,

1 bright blue left wedge tile 1x2 with curve and 45° cut,

and 1 bright blue flat tile 1x2.

There are a total of 4 wedge tiles 1x2 in this bag. Make sure to find 2 different ones. The correct orientation will be explained in the next steps.

Put the 2 wedge tiles vertically on the table, pointy ends to the front.

Take the one where the cut-off corner is on the right side. Mount it vertically on the frontmost knob of the rightmost column that has knobs.

Make sure the cut-off is on the right and the pointy end is to the front. If this does not add up, try a wedge tile 1x2 with a different cut-off.

Mount the wedge tile with cut-off on the left side symmetrically on the leftmost column with knobs.

Put the flat tile 1x2 horizontally between the two previous pieces on the frontmost row of knobs.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

2 bright blue plates 1x2,

and 1 bright blue and white flat tile 2x2 with sticker. (This sticker has a function code on it.)

Put the flat tile with sticker behind the previous piece.

Put the 2 plates 1x2 vertically to the left and right of the previous piece.

Collect the following 4 pieces:

1 bright blue left wedge tile 1x2 with curve and 45° cut,

1 bright blue right wedge tile 1x2 with curve and 45° cut,

and 2 bright blue flat tiles 1x1.

Put the 2 flat tiles 1x1 behind the 2 previous pieces.

Put the 2 wedge tiles 1x2 vertically on the table, pointy ends to the back, and cut-off corners on the outside.

Mount them vertically behind the 2 previous pieces, pointy ends to the back. Make sure the cut-off corners are on the outside, not inwards.

Find 2 bright blue bricks 1x3x2 with inverted half-arch.

Put them vertically next to each other on the 2 middle rows, half arches to the front, knobs at the back.

Find 1 bright blue plate 1x2.

Put it horizontally on top of the two previous pieces.

Find 1 bright blue top angle plate 1x2 - 2x2 with 4 side knobs.

Put it horizontally on the previous piece, side plate and 4 side knobs to the back.

Now, we build Dorrie's chest.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white plate 2x3,

and 1 white flat tile 2x2.

Put the plate 2x3 horizontally on the table.

Put the flat tile 2x2 on the left edge, leaving the rightmost column empty.

Find 1 white one-stepped curve tile 2x2x⅔.

Mount it to the right of the previous piece, slope to the right, one half overhanging to the right.

Now, turn the structure 90 degrees to the right. This means that now, the 8 side knobs are pointing to the right and the feet are pointing to the front and back.

Mount Dorrie's chest upright on the 8 side knobs, slope to the bottom. Make sure that at the top, the structure and the chest are flush.

Make sure to keep the structure in this orientation. We will continue with Dorrie's head and put the main structure aside for now.

Next, we will build Dorrie's head.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright blue brick 1x2x1⅔ with 8 side knobs and 1 smooth side,

and 1 bright red plate 1x2.

Put the brick with 8 side knobs horizontally on the table, smooth side to the back.

Put the plate 1x2 horizontally on the 2 top knobs.

Find 1 bright blue smooth roof tile 1x2x⅔.

Put it horizontally on the previous piece, slope to the back.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 reddish brown plate 2x2,

and 1 bright blue plate 1x2.

Put the plate 1x2 upright horizontally on the 2 bottommost knobs pointing to the front.

Put the plate 2x2 upright above the previous piece. This means it will only connect with 2 knobs. The smooth roof tile will slightly stick out above this piece.

Find 1 bright yellow flat tile 1x2. (This piece is printed.)

Put Dorrie's head flat on the table, meaning that the slope is now to the back, and 6 knobs are pointing to the top.

Put the printed flat tile 1x2 horizontally on the backmost row.

The piece is printed with Dorrie's eyes. If you want to make sure the orientation of the eyes is correct, ask a sighted person for help.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white brick 1x2,

and 1 bright blue brick 1x2.

Put the bright blue brick 1x2 horizontally in front of the previous piece.

Put the white brick horizontally in front of the previous piece.

Find 2 bright blue smooth curve bricks 1x2.

Put 1 horizontally on the previous piece, curve to the front.

Put the other one horizontally behind the previous piece, curve to the back. Together, these 2 pieces form a half-cylinder.

And guess what: This half-cylinder is Dorrie's snout!

Dorrie's head is finished! Well done! Flip it upright and mount it horizontally on the 2 topmost knobs of the structure, the 2 previous pieces overhanging to the right. Make sure that the left side of the head is flush with the rest of the structure.

Find 2 bright blue round tiles 2x2.

Put 1 upright on the 2 side knobs on Dorrie's head that are pointing to the front. This can be rather difficult. Make sure that the round tile is not sticking out towards the left.

Repeat symmetrically on the side knobs pointing to the back.

The Dorrie figure is finished! Fantastic job! Now, Mario can jump on his friend's back and go on a coin-collecting ride! If you switch Mario on, he will make a special sound when he is standing on top of the function sticker on Dorrie's back.

In case you are using the app, you can use this sticker to add the whole set to your collection online.

Open bag number 2. You can choose to have the bricks sorted by color again. This bag contains all bricks and pieces for the Sandcastle module with Block number 1, the Water Fountain module with Block number 2, the Launcher module with Green Shell as well as the Huckit Crab module.

Now, we will build the Sandcastle module with Block number 1.

Find 1 bright yellow plate 6x6x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it on the table. Make sure the knobs form rows and columns in front of you. The frontmost, backmost, leftmost and rightmost rows only consist of 2 knobs each.

Find 1 pale ocher yellow plate 2x6.

Put it horizontally centered in the middle the base plate. Since the base plate also has smooth spots, the new plate will only connect to 4 knobs on the left and 4 knobs on the right.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow plates 1x3 with 2 knobs.

Put 1 horizontally in front of the previous piece. Make sure there is 1 empty knob to the left of the new piece.

Repeat symmetrically at the back. Again, make sure that there is 1 empty knob to the left of the new piece.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow plates 1x1.

Put 1 to the left of the previous piece to complete this row.

Repeat symmetrically at the front.

Next, we will build the Block number 1.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white round plate 2x2,

and 1 bright purple brick 1x2. (This piece is printed with a white number 1. Ask a sighted person to help you find the correct brick, since this bag also contains purple bricks with the number 2.)

Put the round plate on the table.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally on the 2 knobs at the front, printed side to the front.

Find 1 bright purple brick 1x2. (This piece is also printed with a white number 1.)

Put it horizontally behind the previous piece, printed side to the back.

Find 1 bright purple flat tile 2x2 with function sticker. (Careful, there are 2 purple flat tiles with function sticker in this bag. We need the sticker with a small number 1 printed on it. Ask a sighted person to help you find the correct piece.)

Put it on the two previous pieces.

The Block number 1 is finished! Mount it centered on the right edge of the structure, printed numbers to the front and back.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey plate 2x2 with vertical top connector,

and 1 bright yellow flat tile 1x2.

Put the flat tile 1x2 vertically to the left of the previous piece. This can be tricky, you might have to shortly remove the Block number 1.

Put the plate with connector to the left of the previous piece.

If done correctly, there are 2 empty knobs to the left of the previous piece.

Next up, we build the Sandcastle walls.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow bricks 1x3.

Put them vertically on the table.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow bricks 1x3 with inside arch.

Put them vertically on the two previous pieces.

The Sandcastle walls are finished: put 1 horizontally on the second row from the front. Make sure to leave the leftmost knob of that row empty.

Repeat symmetrically on the second row from the back. Again, leave the leftmost knob of that row empty.

Careful: Since the walls are 3 knobs long but only mounted on 2 knobs, they can easily slip out of place. Make sure that they stay flush with the plates 1x3 below them.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow nose cones 1x1.

Put them to the left of the 2 Sandcastle walls.

Next, we will build the sand shovel.

The pieces used for the sand shovel have some complicated names and descriptions. Listen very carefully, and if you are not sure, listen to the instruction several times. And if it does not work out, you can always ask for help.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 dark stone grey technic beam 1m with 2 cross axles, (This is a round bushing or hole that has 2 cross axle pins on its left and right side)

and 1 dark stone grey shaft 2m with hanging cross bushing 1x1. (This shaft is a bit like a handlebar, and at its bottom there is a cross hole.)

Insert one of the cross axle pins into the cross hole from the front. Make sure that the technic beam (this is the round hole) is running top-to-bottom, not left to right.

If done correctly, the handlebar shaft is at the top, the cross axle part is sticking out towards the front, and the round hole is running from top to bottom.

Find 1 reddish brown angled cross axle extension 3m with bushing hole. (This is like a serrated tube with a bend and a round hole in the middle.)

Put one end of the cross axle extension on the cross axle sticking out towards the front. Make sure the cross axle extension is bending downwards, not upwards or sideways.

Find 1 black shovel.

Insert its handle into the empty end of the cross axle extension. This is a very tight fit, so make sure to apply a little pressure. If done correctly, you have created 1 pipe-shaped structure with a bend and kind of a handle on the top right and the pan of the shovel on the left.

The sand shovel is finished! Great job, this was really tricky! To mount it, hold it horizontally, shovel pointing to the left. Find the round hole that is running top to bottom, and put it on the connector sticking out towards the top. You need to apply some pressure to fit it in!

Find 1 pale ocher yellow bow tile 1x4x⅔.

Put it vertically on the 2 nose cones on the left side of the structure.

Find 2 medium nougat brown plates 2x3 with cut-out 1x1.

Put 1 horizontally on the back wall of the Sandcastle, cut-out to the front.

Put 1 horizontally on the front wall, cut-out to the back.

Find 4 pale ocher yellow nose cones 1x1.

Put them on the 4 corners of the Sandcastle walls.

The Sandcastle module is finished! Well done! If Mario wants to get to the Block number 1, there is no other way than to destroy the Sandcastle. Try kicking the shovel to the left and right to break down the castle walls! But you can also leave the sandcastle intact for now. It will work best once all modules are connected.

Next, we build the Water Fountain module with Block number 2.

Find 1 dark azure blue plate 6x6x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it on the table. Again, make sure that the knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Find 1 medium stone grey brick 1x1 with horizontal side clasp.

Put it on the rightmost knob of the second row from the back, clasp to the back.

Find 2 medium stone grey roof tiles 2x2, 45°.

Put 1 to the left of the previous piece, slope to the back. Make sure the piece is flush with the back edge of the base plate.

Put the other one on the 4 frontmost middle knobs, slope to the front.

Find 1 dark stone grey brick 1x4.

Put it horizontally centered behind the previous piece. Make sure there is 1 empty row between the new piece and the roof tile at the back.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 purple violet smooth half-cylinder 1x1,

and 1 lavender smooth half-cylinder 1x1.

Put the purple violet half-cylinder to the right of the previous piece, curve running from front to back.

Repeat on the left side with the lavender half-cylinder, curve again running from front to back.

Find 3 medium stone grey roof tiles 1x2, 45°.

Put 1 horizontally on the 1 remaining knob in the front right corner, slope to the right.

Repeat symmetrically in the front left corner, slope to the left.

Put the last one horizontally on the empty knob to the left of the roof tile at the back, slope to the left.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey plate 2x4,

and 1 medium stone grey plate 1x4.

Put the plate 2x4 horizontally on the 2 frontmost rows. There should be exactly 8 knobs that fit the shape of this plate.

Put the plate 1x4 horizontally on the backmost row of knobs.

Find 1 medium stone grey roof tile 1x2, 45°.

Put it horizontally on the right half of the previous piece, slope to the right.

Next up, we make a sub-part of the Water Fountain module.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey brick 1x2 with side connector,

and 1 medium stone grey angular technic beam 4m x 4m with 2 cross holes, 53°. (This is a bent bar that has a total of 7 side holes. The two end holes are cross holes.)

Hold the angular technic beam horizontally. Make sure the bending point is at the top, and the two beam arms are pointing downwards.

Now, snap the connector of the brick 1x2 into the middle hole from the back. This is the topmost hole at the moment. It will make a click sound.

Keep the orientation of this part, and mount the brick 1x2 horizontally on the 2 left knobs of the backmost row. The angular beam will slide into the empty space on the structure.

If done correctly, the angular beam will stick out a little on the left. Also, it should move left and right if you tap on it.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 purple violet smooth half-cylinder 1x1x⅔,

and 1 medium stone grey roof tile 1x2, 45°.

Put the half-cylinder on the leftmost knob of the second row from the front. The curve is again running from front to back.

If done correctly, this piece is mounted in front of the angular technic beam from before.

Put the roof tile 1x2 horizontally in front of the previous piece, slope to the left. It should be flush with the previous piece on the left side.

Find 1 medium stone grey brick 1x2 with 2 technic holes. (Technic holes are round side holes.)

First, rotate the structure clockwise by a quarter turn (or 90 degrees). This means that the slope of the previous piece is now pointing to the back. The moving angular beam is now in vertical orientation and sticking out towards the back.

Put the brick 1x2 with technic holes horizontally in front of the previous piece. If done corretly, there will be 2 empty knobs directly in front of it.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey smooth roof tile 1x1x⅔,

and 1 medium stone grey plate 2x4.

Put the plate 2x4 horizontally on top in the middle of the structure. Make sure it is flush on the left and right sides.

Put the roof tile 1x2 behind the previous piece, slope to the back. There should only be 1 empty knob left behind the previous piece.

Find 2 bright green flat tiles 1x2.

Put 1 vertically in front of the previous piece.

Put the other one vertically on the leftmost column at the top. If done correctly, there are 4 knobs left between these two pieces.

Next, we build the Block 2 module.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey plate 1x2,

and 1 medium stone grey plate 1x2 with side bottom tube.

Hold the plate 1x2 vertically in your hand.

Put the plate with side bottom tube horizontally on the back knob, side bottom tube to the right.

Find another medium stone grey plate 1x2 with side bottom tube.

Put it horizontally in front of the previous piece, side bottom tube again to the right.

Find 1 pale ocher yellow connector peg 3m with friction ring.

Insert the longer end of the connector peg into the bottom tube from the back. The shorter end will stick out towards the back.

This is the block base. Continue for the Block itself.

Next up, we will build the Block 2 itself.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white round plate 2x2,

and 1 bright purple brick 1x2. (This brick is printed with a white number 2.)

Put the round plate 2x2 on the table.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally on the 2 front knobs, print to the front.

Find another bright purple brick 1x2. (This piece is printed with the number 2, as well.)

Put it horizontally behind the previous piece, print to the back.

Find 1 bright purple flat tile 2x2 with function sticker. (Make sure that you use the tile with the function sticker number 2. Ask a sighted person to help you if needed.)

Put it on top of the 2 previous pieces.

Mount the Block number 2 on the block base. Make sure the prints are to the left and to the right, and the connector peg is sticking out towards the back on the right side.

The Block 2 module is finished! To mount it, flip it on its side, connector at the bottom, pointing to the back. Then, snap the connector peg into the left technic hole at the front side.

If done correctly, you can now turn the block from right to left. Push it down to the right and then try tapping the angular technic beam at the back. With the right amount of force, the block will bounce to the top. This might take you a few tries! Once you're successful with that, Mario can jump on the function sticker and collect his rewards.

Next, we will build the jet of water.

Find 3 transparent light blue round bricks 2x2 with top cross hole.

Stack them on top of each other.

Mount the jet of water on the 4 knobs at the top of the structure.

Find 2 bright blue plates 1x2 with 1 knob.

Put 1 vertically on the 2 right knobs of the jet of water.

Put the other one vertically to the left of the previous piece.

Find 1 transparent light blue water splash plate 5x5x⅔ with 2 knobs.

Put it on top of the two previous pieces, knobs in horizontal orientation.

Find 1 salmon pink coral plant with 1 top knob and 3 side knobs.

Snap its shaft into the clasp on the right side of the structure at the very bottom, side knobs to the right.

The Water Fountain module with Block number 2 is finished! Well done! Do you think Mario can kick up the Block number 2 and collect its reward?

Now, we will build the Launcher module with Green Shell.

Find 1 bright blue plate 2x8.

Put it horizontally on the table.

Find 1 medium stone grey plate 2x4 with lateral top tube and 4 knobs.

Put it horizontally on the right half of the previous piece, lateral top tube to the right and at the back.

Find 1 bright blue plate 4x4x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it centered to the left of the previous piece.

Find 1 bright yellow plate 2x4.

Put it horizontally centered on the previous piece. If done correctly, there is 1 empty row in front of this piece and 1 empty row behind it.

Find 2 bright yellow flat tiles 1x2.

Put them horizontally centered in front of and behind the previous piece. There should be 1 empty knob to the left and right of both flat tiles.

Find 4 bright yellow quarter-circle tiles 1x1.

Put them on the 4 empty knobs next to the previous pieces. Make sure the rounded shapes of the quarter-circle tiles match the rounded corners of the base plate.

Find 1 bright yellow smooth curve brick 1x2.

Put it vertically on the second row of knobs from the right, curve to the right.

Find 1 bright yellow flat tile 2x4.

Put it horizontally to the left of the previous piece.

Next, we will build the platform of the Launcher module.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 flame yellowish orange flat tile 4x4x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet,

and 1 medium stone grey plate 1x2.

Put the flat tile 4x4 upside down on the table. Make sure the 4 sides are at a right angle and not diagonal like a diamond.

Put the plate 1x2 vertically on the rightmost edge between the 2 feet on the right.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 black plate 2x4 with lateral side tube and 6 knobs,

and 1 black connector peg 2m with middle ring.

Put the plate 2x4 horizontally to the left of the previous piece, lateral tube to the left and at the front.

Snap the connector peg into the tube from the back.

The launcher platform is finished! First, flip it right side up and make sure the tube and connector are on the right. The smooth plate 4x4 is at the top and on the left side.

To mount it, snap its connector into the top tube at the right edge of the structure from the front.

If done correctly, you can move the platform up and down. If you fold it all the way down, it will still be slightly inclined and rest on the smooth curve brick in the middle of the structure.

Next, we will assemble the Green Shell.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white and dark green shell base 4x4 with 8 slopes and 4 knobs,

and 1 dark green flat tile 2x2.

Put the flat tile 2x2 on the 4 knobs of the shell base.

Open the launcher platform a little towards the top, and put the green shell on the left side of the structure. Notice that the bottom side of the launcher shell has a recess that fits perfectly on the heightened part of the launcher structure.

The Launcher module with Green Shell is finished! Well done! Can you think of a way how Mario can safely toss the green shell aside? A hint: it has to do with jumping!

Now, we will build the Huckit Crab module.

Find 1 bright yellow round plate 2x2 with feet.

Put it on the table. Make sure the wider ends of the feet are to the front.

Find 1 black brick 1x2x1⅔ with 8 side knobs and 1 smooth side.

Put it vertically on the 2 right knobs, smooth side to the left.

Find 1 dark stone grey brick 1x1x1⅔ with 2 side knobs.

Put it to the left of the previous piece on the back knob, side knobs to the left.

Now, we will make a sub-part of the Huckit Crab.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 black round plate 1x2 with side handle,

and 1 bright red round plate 1x1 with through-hole.

Put the round plate with side handle on the table, handle to the left.

Put the round plate with through-hole on top.

Mount this part on the front left knob of the crab structure.

Find 1 black brick 1x1 with 1 front and 1 side knob.

Put it on top of the previous part, side knobs pointing to the front and to the left.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright red plate 2x2 with 1 knob,

and 1 bright red flat tile 1x1.

Put the plate 2x2 on top of the structure.

Put the flat tile 1x1 on the previous piece. Make sure its sides are parallel to the sides of the plate 2x2 with 1 knob and not diagonally.

Find 1 bright red flat tile 2x2. (This piece is printed, but do not confuse it with the flat tile 2x2 with sticker.)

Put it upright on the 3 side knobs pointing to the front.

This piece is printed with the eyes of the Huckit Crab. You might be able to feel the print: it should be at the bottom half of the tile, while the top half is smooth. If you are not sure, you can ask a sighted person for help.

Find 1 bright red flat tile 2x2 with function sticker.

Put it upright on the 2 side knobs pointing to the back.

Find 1 bright red flat tile 2x2.

Put it upright on the 4 side knobs pointing to the right.

Find 1 bright red corner tile 1x2 - 1x2.

Put it upright on the 3 side knobs pointing to the left. Make sure the shape of the corner tile matches the arrangement of the 3 knobs.

Next, we build the claw of Huckit Crab.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright red brick 1x1 with side knob,

and 1 bright red round plate 1x1 with through-hole.

Put the round plate 1x1 on the table.

Put the brick 1x1 with side knob on top, side knob to the front.

Find 2 bright red smooth roof tiles 1x1x⅔.

Put 1 on the side knob of the previous piece, slope towards the bottom.

Put the other one on the top knob, slope to the back.

The claw of Huckit Crab is finished! Well done! First, flip it to the side so that the through-hole is on the right.

Now put the through-hole on the handle sticking out from Huckit Crab on the left side. The claw can point in any direction.

Next, we will build the platform for Huckit Crab.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright yellow plate 6x6x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet,

and 1 bright yellow plate 2x3.

Put the plate 6x6x⅔ on the table. Make sure its knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Put the plate 2x3 vertically centered underneath the base plate, one row sticking out towards the front. It fits perfectly between the two front feet of the plate.

Find 1 bright yellow two-stepped curve tile 2x4.

Put it vertically on the frontmost row of the baseplate and the row sticking out from underneath. Half of the curve tile is overhanging to the front.

The platform for Huckit Crab is finished! Place the crab in the middle of the platform.

The Huckit Crab module is finished! Well done! Let's see how Mario handles this rascal. To safely toss it aside, you can consider using the Green Shell. Once defeated, Mario can jump on the function sticker of the crab and collect his rewards.

Open bag number 3. You can choose to have the bricks sorted by color again. This bag contains all bricks and pieces for the Tree module with Block number 3, the Small Water Fountain module and the Grass module. Additionally, there are 5 plates of different lengths for connecting the modules.

Next up, we will build the Tree module with Block number 3.

Find 1 bright yellow plate 6x6x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it on the table. Make sure its knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Find 2 medium nougat brown plates 1x4.

Put 1 vertically on the second column from the right. Careful: The first column on the right only consists of 2 knobs.

Repeat symmetrically on the left.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow plates 1x2.

Put 1 vertically on the 2 middle knobs of the previous piece.

Repeat symmetrically on the right.

Find 2 medium stone grey bricks 1x1 with cross hole.

Put 1 behind the previous piece. Make sure that the hole runs from right to left. Otherwise the hole would be partly blocked by the previous piece.

Repeat symmetrically at the front. Again, make sure the hole runs from right to left.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow bricks 1x1 with technic hole. (Remember: Technic holes are round side holes.)

They will be placed exactly like the 2 previous pieces, but on the left side. Put 1 on the backmost knob of the second column from the left.

Make sure that the technic hole runs from left to right again.

Repeat symmetrically at the front, technic hole from left to right.

Find 2 dark stone grey cross axles 4m with end stop.

Insert it from the left at the front, end stop on the left edge. This means you will first insert it into the technic hole at the left front, and then into the cross hole at the right front.

Repeat symmetrically at the back. Make sure to push the cross axles in completely.

Notice the 2 recesses that we have created on the second column from the left and the second column from the right. We will fit the stem of the tree into those 2 recesses later.

Next up, we will build the stem of the Tree.

Find 1 pale ocher yellow plate 2x2.

Put it on the table.

Find 1 reddish brown brick 2x2 with 2 side connectors.

This piece also has a top cross hole in the middle. We will need this hole later.

Put it horizontally on top, connectors to the left and right.

Find 1 bright yellow inverted curve disk 2x2 with 4 knobs.

Mount it underneath on the bottom surface of the current structure.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow bricks 1x2 with technic hole.

Put the technic holes of these bricks on the 2 side connectors.

They will rotate easily at this stage. This is intentional, do not worry about this right now.

Find 1 bright red cross axle 8m.

The structure is a bit wobbly now because of the curved disk at the bottom. So for the next steps, put it on the table on its side, curve disk to the right, knobs to the left.

Insert the cross axle into the cross hole of the brick 2x2 from the left. Most of it will stick out towards the left.

If you accidentally push off the round disk 2x2 at the bottom, put it on again, pushing back the cross axle a little. This might also happen in the next few steps but you can always fix it by pushing around the cross axle a little.

Find 1 reddish brown round brick 2x2 with top cross hole.

Turn it so that the knobs are pointing to the left, and put it on the cross axle. Push firmly until the knobs of the structure connect with this piece.

Find another 5 reddish brown round bricks 2x2 with top cross hole.

Put them on the cross axle just like the previous piece: knobs always to the left, pushing the round bricks in until they connect with the previous piece.

In the end, a total of 6 round bricks should fit onto the cross axle. If the last one does not fit, make sure the previous pieces are really pushed in fully.

The stem of the Tree is finished! Well done! Flip it upright, meaning that the curve disk is at the bottom again. Mount the stem in the middle of the structure. The 2 bricks 1x2 fit into the 2 recesses on the columns we built earlier. Since they move around easily, this can be a bit tricky. Ask for help if needed.

Find 2 pale ocher yellow bow tiles 1x4x⅔.

Put 1 vertically on the second column from the left. It will lock in the mounting brick of the tree stem.

Repeat symmetrically on the right.

Next, we will build the first of two Block attachments.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 reddish brown brick 1x2 with technic hole,

and 1 pale ocher yellow connector peg 2m with cross axle pin.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally on the table.

Insert the connector pin into the hole from the front, cross axle sticking out towards the front.

Mount it horizontally on the 2 back knobs of the tree stem, cross axle sticking out towards the back.

Next, let's make the second of two Block attachments.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 reddish brown brick 1x2 with technic hole,

and 1 pale ocher yellow connector peg 2m with cross axle pin.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally on the table.

Insert the connector peg into the hole from the front, cross axle pin sticking out towards the front.

Mount this part horizontally on the 2 front knobs of the tree stem, cross axle sticking out towards the front.

Now, we build the treetop.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 dark green plate 3x3,

and 1 reddish brown round brick 2x2 with top cross hole.

Put the round brick 2x2 on the table.

Put the plate 3x3 centered on top. Make sure it is overhanging symmetrically on all 4 sides.

Find 1 bright yellow round plate 1x1 with through-hole.

Put it on the middle knob of the previous piece.

Find 1 dark green palm leaf with 2 knobs.

Put it horizontally on the 2 right knobs of the backmost row, leaves pointing to the right and slightly down. Make sure the left knob of the backmost row remains empty.

Find 3 dark green palm leafs with 2 knobs.

Put 1 vertically on the rightmost column in front of the previous piece, leaves overhanging to the front and slightly downwards.

Put 1 horizontally to the left of the previous piece, leaves to the left and downwards.

Put the last one vertically behind the previous piece, leaves to the back and downwards.

Find 1 dark green round tile 3x3.

Put it on top in the middle of the structure. This might be a bit tricky, move it around until you find a connection.

The treetop is finished! Great job! Mount it on the 4 top knobs of the tree stem.

Next up, we will build the Block number 3.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 reddish brown plate 3x2 with half circle and hole,

and 1 white round plate 2x2.

Put the plate with half circle on the table, half circle to the left.

Put the round plate 2x2 on the 4 knobs of the previous piece.

Find 2 bright purple bricks 1x2. (These pieces are printed on one side each with a white number 3.)

Put 1 horizontally on the 2 front knobs of the previous piece, print to the front.

Repeat symmetrically at the back, print to the back.

Find 1 bright purple and white flat tile 2x2 with function sticker.

Put it on top.

The Block number 3 is finished! Flip it upright and use the hole of its base to hang it on one of the cross axles sticking out underneath the treetop. If it falls down from the cross axle you chose, try the other cross axle.

The Tree module with Block number 3 is finished! Fantastic! Mario will have to wobble the tree to get the Block number 3. Give it a try!

Now, we will build the Small Water Fountain module.

Find 1 dark azure blue plate 6x6x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it on the table. Make sure the knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Find 1 bright blue round plate 4x4 with middle hole.

Put it on the previous piece in the middle. Make sure it is centered on the base plate.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 transparent light blue smooth roof tile 1x1x⅔,

and 1 transparent light blue round tile 1x1.

Put the round tile 1x1 on the back knob of the leftmost column. Remember that this column only consists of 2 knobs.

Put the roof tile 1x1x⅔ in front of the previous piece, slope to the left.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright yellow round plate 1x1 with through-hole,

and 1 transparent light blue round tile 1x1.

Put the round plate with through-hole on the left knob of the frontmost row.

Put the round tile on the left knob of the backmost row.

Find 5 transparent light blue round bricks 2x2 with top cross hole.

Put 1 in the center of the whole structure.

Stack the other 4 pieces on top.

Find 2 bright blue plates 1x2 with 1 knob.

Put 1 vertically on the 2 left knobs of the topmost brick.

Put the other one vertically to the right of the previous piece.

Find 1 transparent light blue water splash plate 5x5x⅔ with 2 knobs.

Mount it on top of the 2 previous pieces, knobs in horizontal orientation.

Find 1 lavender round plate 1x1 with 3 leaves.

Put it on the right knob of the frontmost row at the lowest level of the structure, leaves to the front and slightly to the right.

Find 1 salmon pink coral plant with 1 top knob and 3 side knobs.

Insert its bottom shaft into the top hole of the previous piece, side knobs to the front.

The Small Water Fountain module is finished! Great job! Add it to your course for some more splish-splash action.

Next, we will build the Grass module.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright blue plate 4x4x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet,

and 1 medium stone grey brick 1x2.

Put the plate 4x4x⅔ on the table. Make sure the knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally centered on the back row.

Find 3 medium stone grey bricks 1x2.

Put 1 horizontally centered on the front row.

Put 1 vertically centered on the left column.

Repeat symmetrically on the right.

Now, only the 4 corner knobs of the base plate are still empty.

Find 1 bright green plate 4x4x⅔ with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it on top. Its feet should fit perfectly between the 4 previous pieces.

The Grass module is finished! Well done! This module is a great place for Mario and Dorrie to hang out and take a rest.

Collect the following 6 pieces:

4 bright blue plates 2x8,

1 bright blue plate 2x12,

and 1 bright yellow plate 2x8.

These 6 plates are your connecting plates. Blue plates are water, Mario will make a swimming sound if you put him on a blue surface, and yellow is sand. All plates fit underneath the modules that you have built. You can create your own course and connect the different modules as you please! But you can also follow our course suggestion in the last section of the instructions. By the way: You can also combine these modules with the LEGO Mario Starter set and other LEGO Mario sets. But of course, the modules also work on their own, so you have all the options!

You have finished building all modules of this set! Fantastic job! Now it's time to see if Mario and Dorrie can find and unlock all 3 Blocks! Watch out for Huckit Crab – if you put the Launcher module opposite of Huckit Crab, you might just be able to defeat the crab with a skillful toss of the Green Shell. Pull and push the sand shovel to destroy the sand castle and access the hidden block, and try all the other play options this set offers. If you would like a suggestion for the module arrangement, keep on swiping. If you want to build your own course now, enjoy!

Finally, we will provide you with a course arrangement suggestion in the following descriptions.

To start, take the Small Water Fountain module, coral plant to the front, and mount the longest blue connecting plate, the plate 2x12, horizontally underneath on the right edge with 2 or 4 knobs. The rest of the connecting plate is sticking out to the right.

Take the Sand Castle module and mount it on the right edge of the connecting plate, sand shovel to the front.

Next, take a blue connecting plate 2x8 and connect it vertically underneath the sand castle module at the back, connecting plate sticking out towards the back.

Take the Launcher module, turn it so that the launcher platform is on the left, and mount this module at the back edge of the connecting plate.

Lift up the platform a little and place the Green Shell on the sliding surface. Put the Huckit Crab module to the right of the Launcher module without a connecting plate.

Take a blue connecting plate 2x8 and mount it vertically underneath the Launcher module at the back, connecting plate sticking out towards the back.

Mount the Grass module at the back edge of the previous connecting plate. Take another blue connecting plate 2x8 and mount it horizontally underneath on the right, plate sticking out to the right.

Mount the Water Fountain module with Block number 2 on the right edge of the previous connecting plate, block number 2 on the left side, and protruding technic beam on the right.

Mount the last blue connecting plate 2x8 horizontally underneath on the right edge of the previous module, plate sticking out to the right.

Finally, mount the Tree module with Block number 3 on the right edge of the previous module. You can freely choose the orientation of the Tree module.

Start your course at the Small Water Fountain module and make your way through all the stations. Watch out for Huckit Crab and collect all 3 Blocks!

Enjoy!
