LEGO 42621 Heartlake City Hospital

LEGO Audio & Braille Building Instructions for the LEGO Friends set "Heartlake City Hospital".
Autumn is visiting Heartlake City Hospital today. She’s here to have a new prosthetic arm fitted. The hospital has lots of modern technology and different areas for the staff and patients. Meet the assistant robot and the therapy dog. Ride the elevator to visit the newborn babies in the maternity ward and watch out for the helicopter as it lands on the helipad.
The box cover shows the hospital from the front on a sunny day in Heartlake City. The hospital is located in a very green area of town. It is important for patients and medical staff alike to have nice views of the greenery and be able to enjoy the hospital gardens during recovery or on their breaks! The building has a ground floor and one upper floor. The leftmost wing of the hospital is extending at an angle towards the front left. This means that the building is not arranged in one straight line but has a slight bend in it. All rooms of the hospital have large floor-to-ceiling windows to make sure that they are bright and friendly. The color scheme of the building is very typical for hospitals: it is mainly white with decoration elements in a clean turquoise shade. The leftmost hospital wing accommodates the employee break room and the area for the therapy dog on the ground floor and a rooftop terrace on the second floor. A woman dressed in a hospital gown is currently out there with two babies. There is a small heart hovering above her head. She loves her babies so much! One of the doctors is currently standing in the door of the employee break room on the ground floor, waving to someone in the distance. The break room has a smaller doggie door for the therapy dog. The room to the right of the employee break room is not visible from the hospital front, and for a good reason: it's the toilet - privacy is key. The next room that is visible from the front is the X-ray room, followed by the hospital entrance with reception. The hospital's working elevator is located on the rightmost side of the hospital, connecting the ground and second floor and ensuring accessibility to everyone. The top floor accommodates the examination room (which is located above the reception) and, to its left, the maternity ward with rooftop terrace. There is a helipad on the roof of the hospital. The hospital helicopter is actually in the process of landing! The hospital emblem, a big pink heart with a yellow heartbeat line, is mounted at the top of the hospital's facade. In front of the hospital, there is a generous driveway to make sure that ambulances but also visitors can access the hospital easily. In the current scene, Autumn and Mia are standing in front of the reception. Autumn is due to receive her prosthetic today! The assistant robot and the therapy dog are also in the driveway. It seems like they are having a little friendly race on the hospital grounds! Several hospital accessories are also visible on the box cover, such as a lilac wheelchair and a first aid kit. There are many more details to be discovered in our hospital though, so let's get started!
Open the box. This can be tricky; ask someone to help you!
The box contains a large envelope containing 2 booklets with visual building instructions and 1 sheet with 24 stickers, 9 bags with numbers printed on them and 1 loose piece (1 plate 8x16). Ask a sighted person to help you find the correct bag!
One more note on the stickers before we start building: if you want to try and attach the stickers in this set yourself, we will give you instructions where to find the stickers on the sticker sheet. For this purpose, please put the sticker sheet horizontally in front of you, making sure that the corner with the large sticker 5x6 is in the front right corner. Note that there are 2 stickers with the size 5x6, but only one of them is located directly in a corner. Alternatively, you can also decide to ask a sighted person for help or skip attaching stickers in each case. If a sighted person helps you with the orientation of the sticker sheet, ask them to turn the sticker sheet such that the thick dark-blue line is at the back edge.
Carefully open bag number 1 and any small sub-bags in it. This bag contains all bricks and pieces for the Nurse Minidoll, the Assistant Robot and the Helicopter.
Before you start building, ask a sighted person to help you sort the pieces by color. This makes finding the correct pieces even easier!
First, we will build the Nurse Minidoll.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 bright blue and white pair of Minidoll legs with long pants and back pockets,
and 1 light nougat brown and medium blue Minidoll upper body.
Put the upper body on the legs.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 dark brown hairpiece with short shaggy hair,
and 1 light nougat brown Minidoll head.
Put the head on the body.
Put the hair on top.
Find 1 black flat tile 1x2. (This piece is printed.)
Snap it sideways into the Minidoll's right hand.
It is printed with the home screen of a smartphone covered in blue and white app icons and has a home button. The state of charge of the battery is medium, the phone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection and has good mobile reception.
Next, we will assemble the first aid kit.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 teal blue plate 1x2 with handle on long side,
and 1 white flat tile 1x2. (This piece is printed.)
Put the plate with handle horizontally on the table, handle to the front.
Put the flat tile 1x2 on top. This tile is printed with a turquoise Star of Life, a symbol often used by medical emergency services. It is a star-shaped icon with 6 rays and blunt ends.
Snap the handle of the first aid kit into the Minidoll's left hand, flat tile with print outwards.
The Nurse Minidoll is finished! Well done! He is wearing blue scrubs, the pants being a darker shade of blue. The t-shirt has a V-neck and short sleeves; it is a pastel shade of blue. Underneath the t-shirt, the nurse is wearing a white undershirt. There is a chest pocket sewn on the right side of his chest, and on the left side he is wearing a name tag. There are two zipper pockets on the shirt for storing small items. The nurse has a broad friendly smile on his face. His eyes are green, and he has thick brown eyebrows. He looks like a friendly person who seems to enjoy his job.
Next, we will build the robot assistant.
Collect the following 3 pieces:
2 bright yellow bent arms with connector peg,
and 1 white round brick 2x2 with side hole.
Put the round brick on the table, side hole running from left to right.
Insert the connector peg of 1 arm into the right hole, arm bending upwards.
Repeat symmetrically on the left.
Continue if you want to decorate this piece with a sticker now. If not, skip the next 3 sentences.
Find 1 rectangular sticker 0.5x2 with blue LED display. (This is sticker number 2. It is the thinnest sticker in the set. On the sticker sheet, it is the second sticker from the top on the rightmost edge. If you want, you can also ask a sighted person to help you find the correct sticker.)
Put it horizontally centered on the front side surface of the round brick.
The sticker shows the assistant robot's LED display that has a light blue background with 3 pixelated white symbols on it. The leftmost symbol is a heart, the middle one is a bar symbol indicating cell reception, and the left symbol is a battery indicator. Currently, the robot is fully charged!

Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 bright purple round tile 1x1 with small top shaft,
and 1 rectangular sticker 1x2 with robot eyes. (This is sticker number 1, located in the top right corner of the sticker sheet. You can also ask a sighted person to help you find the correct sticker if you like or skip attaching the sticker for now.)
Put the round tile with top shaft upright on the knob pointing to the front.
Put the sticker on the flat tile 1x2 at the top. It is printed with 2 light blue pixelated robot eyes with eyebrows!
Flip the robot's head 90 degrees to the front so that the small shaft is pointing to the bottom and the smooth or stickered surface is towards you.
Insert the small shaft into the hollow knob at the top of the robot's body.
Next, we will build the robot undercarriage with wheels.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 medium stone grey round plate 2x2 with 2 bottom clasps,
and 1 teal blue small wheel axle.
Snap the small wheel axle into the 2 clasps of the round plate.

Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 teal blue top angle plate 1x2 - 1x2 with 2 side knobs,
and 1 transparent red grille tile 1x2.
Put the top angle plate horizontally on the 2 back knobs of the round plate, 2 side knobs pointing to the back.
Put the grille tile 1x2 upright horizontally on the 2 knobs pointing to the back.
Find 2 teal blue quarter-circle tiles 1x1.
Put 1 on the left knob of the frontmost row, quarter circle to the front left, matching the round plate's shape.
Put the other one to the right of the previous piece, quarter circle to the front right.
The robot undercarriage with wheels is finished! Well done! Put the robot on top of the undercarriage. Make sure its back half is connecting to the 2 knobs of the undercarriage, arms and stickers to the front.
Find 1 aqua blue feeding bottle with small shaft.
Snap its shaft into the robot's right hand.
Next, we will build a balloon.
Collect the following 2 pieces:

The Hospital Helicopter is finished! Well done! Open the cockpit and seat the Nurse Minidoll (or any other character) in the pilot's seat. Whenever there is an emergency where the medical staff needs to be especially fast or the patient is difficult to reach, the helicopter is a great help.
You have also finished building all sub-builds from bag 1. Great job! Since the hospital is a rather big build with lots of different modules, the bricks and pieces for it are divided across all of the other bags. Therefore, it makes sense to stick to the order suggested here instead of mixing the different bag numbers. We will build the hospital as follows: The first room we will build is the employee room together with the toilet. Then we will move on to the X-ray room and the hospital entrance with reception. After that, we will build the first part of the elevator. Then we will build the examination room on the top floor. After that, the maternity ward. Then we will finish the elevator. After that, it will be time to build the helipad, and finally, the roof, the rooftop terrace and, in the great finish, all kinds of exterior decoration and the hospital emblem. The Minidolls and other extra play elements of this set are spread across the different bags. Have fun!
Open bag number 2. You can choose to have the bricks sorted by color again. This bag contains bricks and pieces for the Autumn Minidoll, the Mia Minidoll, a small outside area with tree base, and the base structure of the employee room with doggie bed and door.
Next, we will build the Autumn Minidoll.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 mud grey and light nougat brown pair of legs with cargo shorts,
and 1 light nougat brown Minidoll upper body with limb difference.
Put the upper body on the legs.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 dark orange wavy hairpiece with side parting and loose plait,
and 1 light nougat brown Minidoll head. (Note: There are 2 different heads for the Mia Minidoll included in this set. They have identical shapes, but their expressions differ. Right now, we are looking for the face with a friendly smile. What's more is that the head for the Mia Minidoll has the same shape as the 2 heads for Autumn, so they are easily confused. Ask a sighted person for help to identify the correct heads. Autumn has freckles, while Mia does not.)
Put the head on the body.
Put the hair on top.
Find another 1 light nougat brown Minidoll head. (This is the alternate head for the Autumn Minidoll with a surprised or slightly worried expression. Again, do not confuse it with Mia's head. Autumn has freckles, Mia does not.)
Depending on which emotion Autumn has during her hospital visit, you can choose to use the head with the friendly and happy smile or the head with the slightly worried or surprised expression. Your choice!
The Autumn Minifigure is finished! Well done! Autumn has a slightly tanned white skin tone and a lot of light-brown freckles on her cheeks. She has green eyes and ginger eyebrows that are quite curved. Autumn is wearing a lavender colored sleeveless top with a white rectangular print with 3 sunflower heads on the chest. At the bottom, the shirt is tied in a knot, exposing a bit of Autumn's belly. She is wearing mud-colored cargo shorts and pale blue flip flops. Around her neck, she is wearing a delicate necklace with a single orange stone. Today might be the day that she gets her prosthetic arm fitted at the hospital. What an exciting outlook!
Next, we will build the Mia Minidoll.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 pale lime green pair of legs with long trousers and 2 back pockets,
and 1 light nougat brown upper part of the body with bust.
Put the upper body on the legs.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 bright red straight hairpiece with long plait,
and 1 light nougat brown Minidoll head.
Put the head on the body.
Put the hair on top.
Find 1 bright orange flat tile 1x2. (This piece is printed.)
Snap it sideways into Mia's left hand. It is printed with a smartphone screen. It shows a messenger conversation with the keyboard open. The text is illegible, but it's likely some texts to her friend Autumn about the visit to the hospital.
The Mia Minidoll is finished! Well done! Mia also has a slightly tanned white skin tone and green eyes just like Autumn. Her eyebrows are rather straight, and she does not have any freckles. She has dark lips and a friendly smile. Her long pants are lime green, and she is wearing white sneakers with dark blue laces and soles. She is wearing a blue shirt and an orange cardigan on top. She is Autumn's friend and is always ready to accompany her on her hospital visits.
Next, we will start building the employee room with an adjacent outside area.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 medium stone grey plate 4x6,

Put the flat tile 1x2 horizontally on the backmost row directly to the right of the plate with clasp.
Find 2 medium nougat brown quarter-arched bricks 1x2 with 2 knobs.
Turn 1 so that the outer arch is to the left back. This means that there is a straight 1x1 side surface facing the front, and the brick is bending to the right back.
Put its frontmost part on the leftmost knob of the frontmost row, brick extending towards the right back.
Put the other one to the right of the previous piece, brick extending towards the front right. Together, they form a half circle.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 teal blue brick 1x6,
and 1 teal blue brick 1x1x5.
Put the brick 1x1x5 on the backmost row directly to the right of the flat tile 1x2.
Put the brick 1x6 vertically in front of the previous piece, 3 knobs overhanging to the front.
If done correctly, the rightmost column of the base plate remains empty for now.
Find 1 medium stone grey plate 6x6 with one rounded corner.
Turn it so that the right-angled corner is on the right back and the rounded corner is on the front left.
Put it underneath the overhanging knobs of the previous piece, making sure to match its back edge with the front edge of the base plate 4x6. Again, the rightmost column of both pieces remains empty.
Find 1 medium nougat brown quarter-arched brick 1x2 with 2 knobs.
Use it to connect to the half circle we built earlier: turn it so that its outer arch is on the front right. Mount it in front of the half circle's right half, creating a three-quarter circle.
Next, we will build the base of the tree stump.
Collect the following 3 pieces:
1 reddish brown round plate 2x2 with 1 knob,
and 2 bright blue round plates 2x2.
Stack the 2 blue round plates 2x2 on top of each other.
Put the round plate with 1 knob on top.
The base of the tree stump is finished! Put it inside the 3/4 circle you have built with the quarter-arched bricks. Later, we will continue to build a tree here.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 rectangular sticker 1x2 with tree plaque, (This is sticker number 20. First, locate the 2 square stickers 2x2 that are attached next to each other on the bottom edge of the sticker sheet. The sticker we need now is located horizontally above them. If you like, you can ask a sighted person to help you find the sticker or skip it for now.)
and 1 medium nougat brown quarter-arched brick 1x2 with 2 knobs.
Put the sticker horizontally centered on the outer arch of the quarter-arched brick. It's a brass plaque that is imprinted with the text "EST. 2012". This plaque is for the tree we will build later.
Use the quarter-arched brick to finish the ring that will later be the tree pit. Make sure its outer arch is to the front left, and mount it between the other quarter-arched bricks.
Find 4 bright yellow quarter-arched tiles 2x2.
Use them to cover the 4 quarter-arched bricks forming a ring. Put 1 quarter-arched tile on each quarter-arched brick, matching their shapes.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 teal blue brick 1x2 with downward half arch,
and 1 teal blue flat tile 1x2.
Put the brick 1x2 horizontally in front of the vertically mounted brick 1x6 and the column to its left, half arch to the left.
Put the flat tile 1x2 horizontally to the left of the previous piece.
If done correctly, these 2 pieces will sit on the third row from the front, leaving the rightmost knob of that row empty.
Find 1 bright yellowish green plate 2x2 with 1 knob.
Before you mount it, turn the structure horizontally, rounded corner to the back left. After turning, the frontmost row is the longest row of the structure and completely empty up until now.
Put the plate 2x2 with 1 knob on the frontmost row, starting from the right edge, 1/2 overhanging to the front.
Find 1 medium stone grey plate 6x10.
Put it horizontally underneath the overhanging row of the previous piece, making sure that its back edge and the front edge of the previous structure are aligned.
Collect the following 5 pieces:
1 white plate 1x4 with 2 knobs,
1 bright yellowish green plate 2x2 with 1 knob,
1 bright yellowish green flat tile 1x4,
and 2 white plates 2x4.
Put 1 plate 2x4 horizontally to the left of the already mounted plate 2x2 with 1 knob.
Put the other plate 2x4 horizontally in front of the previous piece.
Put the plate 2x2 with 1 knob to the right of the previous piece.
Put the flat tile 1x4 vertically to the left of the 3 previous pieces.
Put the plate 1x4 with 2 knobs vertically to the left of the previous piece.
Now, we will build the food tray for the therapy dog.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 white rounded plate 1x2,

Collect the following 4 pieces:
2 stickers 1x2 with solar panel print, (These are stickers number 23, they are identical. They are located to the right of the 2 round stickers 2x2 on the leftmost edge. If you like, you can also ask a sighted person for help or skip the stickers for now)
and 2 black flat tiles 1x2 with rounded corners.
Put the 2 flat tiles 1x2 horizontally on top of the 2 plates 1x2 with side clasp.
Put the stickers on the 2 flat tiles. They are black with 3 square solar cells that shimmer both blue and white, which depends on the angle of light incidence.
The light fixtures are finished! Hold 1 lamppost upright, ball at the top and tube bending from the bottom towards the top right. Snap the clasp of 1 light fixture from the right on the shaft directly below the ball, smooth or stickered side to the top.
Repeat with the second post and fixture.
The 2 lampposts are finished! Great job! Mount 1 directly to the left of the hospital entrance door, lamppost bending towards the front. This means it will sit on the vertically mounted plate 1x2 with top roof tile 1x1.
Mount the other one directly to the front left of the employee room door, lamppost bending towards the front right.
Now, we will build 2 roof solar panels.
Collect the following 4 pieces:
2 medium stone grey tiles 1x2 with angled top handle,
and 2 black square signs 2x2 with clasp.
Put 1 tile 1x2 horizontally on the table, angled side to the front.

Continue if you want to decorate these pieces with stickers now. If not, skip the next 2 sentences.
Find 2 square stickers 2x2 with solar panel print. (These are stickers number 8, they are identical. On the sticker sheet, they are the 2 top stickers in the third column of stickers from the top right. If you like, you can also ask a sighted person for help or skip the stickers for now.)
Put the stickers on top of the 2 square signs. They are black stickers with a total of 16 solar cells. Their color is alternating between blue and white, depending on the angle of light incidence.
The 2 roof solar panels are finished! Well done! They will both be mounted on the triangular surface to the left of the topmost hospital roof with 2 skylights. Mount 1 horizontally on the backmost row of that triangular surface, starting from the left edge, solar panel to the front.
Skip 2 rows towards the front, and mount the other one horizontally on the third row from the front, starting from its left edge, solar panel to the front.
Next, we will build the satellite dish unit.
Collect the following 2 pieces:

Put the rounded plate 1x2 horizontally on the back row.
Find 1 black smooth roof tile 1x2x⅔.
Put it horizontally on the front row, slope to the front.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 black shaft 4m,
and 1 transparent red bulb 1x1 with shaft.
Insert the shaft 4m upright into the left knob at the back, 3/4 protruding to the top.
Insert the shaft of the bulb 1x1 into the right knob, bulb protruding to the top.
Next, we will assemble the satellite dish.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 dust grey curved disk 3x3 with 1 knob,
and 1 black curved disk 2x2 with 1 knob.
Put the curved disk 2x2 on the table, knob top the top.

Find 1 black Minifigure wrench.
Insert its handle into the previous piece's knob, wrench head protruding to the top.
The satellite dish is finished! Great job! Flip it upright, wrench head to the back, and snap the wrench head centered on the shaft, satellite dish hovering above the roof tile 1x2.
The satellite dish unit is finished! Well done! Mount it on the topmost surface of the hospital roof: put it on the second and third column from the left, skipping the 2 backmost rows, satellite dish towards the front.
Finally, we will build the hospital emblem.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 teal blue heart-shaped plate 6x6,
and 1 salmon pink flat tile 1x2.
Put the heart-shaped plate 6x6 on the table, but make sure that its tip is pointing to the front left so that one of its straight edges forms a straight line in front of you.
Put the flat tile 1x2 horizontally on the frontmost row, starting from the left edge.
Collect the following 3 pieces:
2 bright yellow plates 1x2,
and 1 salmon pink flat tile 1x1.

Put 1 flat tile 1x2 horizontally on the second row from the front, directly to the right of the flat tile 1x1 from the previous step.
Put the plate 1x2 horizontally behind the previous piece.
Put 1 flat tile 1x2 horizontally behind the previous piece.
Put the flat tile 1x1 to the right of the previous piece. This means that these 2 pieces both sit on the fourth row from the front.
Put the remaining flat tile 1x2 vertically in front of the previous piece. If done correctly, all plates and flat tiles we have mounted so far currently form a 4x4 square.
Collect the following 8 pieces:
4 light nougat brown quarter-circle tiles 1x1,
and 4 salmon pink quarter-arched tiles 2x2.
Put 1 quarter-arched tile 2x2 on the leftmost edge, arch bending from the front to the back right, matching the shape of the heart plate.
Put 1 quarter-circle tile 1x1 into the inner arch of the previous piece, matching its arch shape.
Put 1 quarter-arched tile 2x2 to the right of the first quarter-arched tile, matching the shape of the heart plate.
Put 1 quarter-circle tile 1x1 into the inner arch of the previous piece, matching its arch shape.
Repeat symmetrically with the 4 remaining pieces on the other half of the heart plate.
Collect the following 3 pieces:
1 bright yellow flat tile 1x4,
1 bright yellow flat tile 1x2,
and 1 bright yellow corner tile 1x2 - 1x2.
Put the flat tile 1x2 vertically on the 2 knobs on the leftmost edge.
Turn the corner tile so that its outer corner is on the back right, and mount it to the right of the previous piece's front half. The part of the corner tile that is pointing to the front will not connect to any knobs.
Put the flat tile 1x4 horizontally in front of the previous piece on the frontmost row. Only its left half will connect to the 2 knobs, the rest is protruding to the right.
These tiles represent a heartbeat line!
Now, we will assemble the emblem mount.
Collect the following 2 pieces:
1 white octagonal ring with 4 knobs,
and 1 bright red round plate 2x2.
Put the octagonal ring on the table, knobs to the top.
Put the round plate 2x2 centered on top.
Flip the heart-shaped emblem upside down and put it on the table. Flip the emblem mount upside down and mount it centered on the bottom surface of the heart-shaped plate.
The hospital emblem is finished! Well done! Flip it upright, heart tip pointing to the bottom, emblem mount towards the back, and snap the 2 clasps that are protruding on the hospital facade towards the front on the octagonal ring so that the emblem is centered on the hospital facade. Make sure the emblem is symmetrical, meaning that its tip should be pointing straight down.
You have finished building the entire set! Congratulations, what a fantastic achievement! Now, the Heartlake City Hospital is ready to open and treat patients. Get the hospital staff ready, give appointments to the patients and help the Heartlake City residents with all their medical needs!
