LEGO 42612 Cat Playground Adventure

LEGO Audio & Braille Building Instructions for the LEGO Friends set "Cat Playground Adventure".

Liann and Olly love hanging out at the cat playground. Olly's pet cat, Gertrude, has made a new friend, Poundcake. They enjoy exploring the slide and cat tree. Look! Here’s a swinging fish toy for the cats to bat. Liann and Olly play with the cats and feed them. Put a cat in the litter box, slide the lever and see the cat pee appear! Then help clean up the litter box before getting back to playtime!

The box cover shows a sunny day in the park. The cat playground is located in the middle of a green meadow surrounded by lush green bushes. The playground offers everything a cat's heart desires: it has several platforms for climbing and jumping, a protected sleeping nook, a food and water station, a litter box, a fun slide and even an alluring fish toy for playing! The new cat, Poundcake, is currently jumping around on the different platforms at the top of the playground. Poundcake is a chubby ginger cat with a very sweet face. Olly is standing to the right of the cat playground next to the fish toy. He is waving to Liann who is at the opposite end of the playground. She is trying to lure Gertrude with another cat toy: a toy fish on a long fishing rod. Gertrude is a petite grey cat with dark grey spots. The cat has a blue collar with a golden tag around its neck. The playground resembles a fun playhouse or even castle: its main walls are yellow with several arched windows, the roof and ramp are turquoise, and the jumping pads are light brown and orange. A path of big flat stones is leading across the meadow to the playground. In the background of the scene, there are a pink and a yellow residential house, both several stories high. There is hardly a cloud to be seen on the blue sky, so felines and humans alike can enjoy a lovely day at the park together! Now, let's get started with our building adventure.

Open the box. This can be tricky; ask someone to help you!

The box contains 1 booklet with visual building instructions and 87 pieces in 2 unnumbered bags.

Carefully open the bags. Before you start building, ask a sighted person to help you sort the pieces by color. This makes finding the correct pieces even easier!

First, we will build the Olly Minidoll.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 black, white and pink Minidoll upper body, (Note that Liann's upper body has the same shape, the only difference between the two pieces are the colors and prints. You can ask a sighted person to help you identify the correct piece.)

and 1 dark azure blue and white Minidoll legs with long pants and back pockets.

Put the upper body on the legs.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 lemon yellow hairpiece with short gel hair,

and 1 warm tan Minidoll head. (Note that Liann's head has the same shape. Ask a sighted person for help to identify the correct headpiece if you want.)

Put the head on the body.

Put the hair on top.

Find 1 light purple hairbrush.

Snap it into Olly's left hand.

Find 1 bright orange cat figurine. (This is the bigger cat figurine of this set.)

This is Poundcake! Poundcake is a ginger cat with a few tiny white spots around the mouth, the inside of its ears and the tips of its front paws. What a cute little fella!

The Olly Minidoll is finished! Great job! Olly is wearing white sneakers, long blue pants, and a t-shirt with black sleeves and collar and a black-and-white zebra-like print. The fashionista is wearing pink suspenders to complete his look. Olly is wearing large glasses with a purple frame around his green eyes and his thick light brown eyebrows. He has a warm tan skin tone and a lovely broad smile on his face. Give Poundcake a few brush strokes, and then let's continue building!

Next, we will build the Liann Minidoll.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 salmon pink and white Minidoll upper body,

and 1 flame yellowish orange pair of legs with cargo shorts.

Put the upper body on the legs.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 black long straight hairpiece with top bun,

and 1 warm tan Minidoll head.

Put the head on the body.

Put the hair on top.

Now, we will build the fish rod toy.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 bright orange fish figurine with hollow knob,

and 1 bright red Minifigure whip with small knob at the end.

Put the knob of the fish on the small knob at the end of the whip.

Snap the handle of the fish rod toy into Liann's left hand.

Find 1 medium stone grey cat figurine. (This is the smaller cat figurine.)

This is Gertrude! She is a light grey cat with some dark grey patches, namely her face, the inside of her ears, and the tips of her front paws. Gertrude has blue eyes, and she is wearing a blue collar with a golden tag around her neck. Such a lovely creature!

The Liann Minidoll is finished! Well done! Liann is wearing a white shirt with horizontal green stripes and a salmon pink button-down jacket with a collar (the jacket has patches in different colors, for instance one side of the collar is light pink and the other is light green, the button tab has one green patch, the upper left chest part of the jacket is light pink, and so on). She is wearing orange cargo shorts and pink sneakers with white laces and white socks. Liann has a warm tan skin tone, dark brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows and black hair. Her lips are dark red, and she has an enticing smile on her face.

Now, we will build the cat playground.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

1 teal blue plate 1x2,

1 bright yellowish green plate 6x6,

and 1 medium azure blue brick 1x2 with horizontal clasp on long side.

Put the plate 6x6 on the table. Make sure that its knobs form straight rows and columns in front of you.

Put the plate 1x2 horizontally on the backmost row, starting from the left edge.

Put the brick 1x2 horizontally to the right of the previous piece, clasp to the back.

Find 1 dark orange half-cylinder piece 1x4.

Put it horizontally to the right of the previous piece, 1/2 overhanging to the right.

Find 1 bright yellowish green plate 6x6.

Put the left half of its backmost row underneath the overhanging part of the previous piece.

Together, the 2 plates 6x6 form a base plate of the format 6x12.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium azure blue brick 1x2 with horizontal clasp on long side,

and 1 teal blue plate 1x2.

Put the brick with clasp horizontally to the right of the half-cylinder piece, clasp to the back.

Put the plate 1x2 horizontally to the right of the previous piece.

Find 3 medium stone grey flat tiles 2x4.

Put 1 horizontally in front of the 2 previous pieces.

Put 1 horizontally to the left of the previous piece.

Put the last one horizontally to the left of the previous piece.

Find 1 teal blue plate 1x6.

Put it horizontally on the row in front of the 3 previous pieces, starting from the right edge.

Find 1 teal blue quarter-circle plate 3x3.

Turn it so that its corner is on the back left, one straight edge on the left and the other straight edge at the back.

Mount it in front of the previous piece's left half, 1 row overhanging to the front.

Find 1 teal blue plate 1x6.

Put it horizontally to the left of the identical plate 1x6 we have mounted earlier.

Find 1 teal blue quarter-circle plate 3x3.

Turn it so that its corner is at the right back.

Put it to the left of the quarter-circle plate we have mounted previously, 1 row overhanging to the front.

If done correctly, two straight edges of the quarter-circle plates meet in the middle, and the curves are on the left and right and towards the front, with the 4 frontmost knobs forming a row that is protruding from the base plate.

Find 1 bright yellowish green plate 2x6 with 2 rounded corners.

Put it horizontally centered underneath the frontmost row that is protruding from the base plate, rounded corners to the front.

Find 4 bright yellow bricks 1x2x2.

and 1 pale ocher yellow flat tile 2x4. (This piece is printed.)

Put the plate 2x8 horizontally on the table.

Put the flat tile 2x4 horizontally on the left half of the previous piece. Ask a sighted person to help you with the correct orientation of the print.

This tile is printed with the litter box: dark ocher-colored details are used to depict the sand in the litter box, and in the right half, there is a big blotch. That's cat pee! Later, when you have finished building this set, you will be able to "clean" the litter box by pushing this element to the right, so ask a sighted person to make sure that the blotch is on the right side now.

Find 1 medium stone grey flat tile 2x4.

Put it vertically to the right of the previous piece, 1/2 overhanging to the back.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

1 transparent light blue flat tile 1x2,

and 2 medium nougat brown round tiles 1x1. (These tiles are printed.)

Put the flat tile 1x2 vertically to the right of the previous piece.

This is the water for the kitties!

Put the 2 round tiles 1x1 on the 2 remaining knobs on the leftmost edge.

The prints of these two pieces are identical: they are dark brown cat treats with a white paw in the middle.

The litter box and the food station are finished! Well done! Put this build horizontally centered on the smooth surface of the cat playground, flat tile protruding towards the back. It will not attach to any knobs; you should be able to slide it from left to right between the 2 bricks 1x2 with side clasp on the backmost row.

Find 1 flame yellowish orange plate 1x8.

Put it horizontally centered on the backmost row. This means it will sit on the 2 bricks with side clasp.

Collect the following 4 pieces:

Put the other pale ocher yellow smooth roof tile horizontally to the right of the front brick 1x2x2 at the left edge, slope to the front.

Find 1 medium azure blue roof tile 3x4 25°.

Turn it horizontally, slope to the front, and put its backmost row between the 2 previous pieces.

Find 1 bright yellow plate 4x4.

Put its frontmost row on top of the previous piece. If done correctly, this piece will be located between the 4 smooth roof tiles 1x2. It will later be used to "clean" (or rather, hide) the cat pee.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 dark orange flat tile 2x2,

and 1 dark orange half-cylinder piece 1x4.

Put the half-cylinder piece 1x4 horizontally on the previous piece's backmost row.

Repeat symmetrically on the left.

Find 2 lemon yellow bricks 1x4x2 with inside arch.

Before you mount them, identify the 2 following knobs: First, identify the second knob from the back on the previous piece's right column.

Secondly, find the leftmost knob in front of the half-cylinder piece 1x4 on the backmost row.

Put 1 brick with inside arch horizontally on those 2 knobs.

Repeat symmetrically on the right.

Find another 2 lemon yellow bricks 1x4x2 with inside arch.

Put 1 horizontally in front of the previous piece.

Repeat symmetrically on the left.

Put it horizontally centered in front of the 2 previous bricks. This means it will sit on the 2 bricks 1x2 with downward half arch.

Find 2 teal blue plates 2x3.

Turn 1 vertically and put its front row on the right half of the previous piece. It will connect the previous piece and the 2 identical pieces on the right.

Put the other one vertically to the left of the previous piece.

Find 2 teal blue quarter-circle plates 3x3.

Turn 1 so that its corner is to the back right, and put it to the left of the previous piece.

Repeat symmetrically on the right. If done correctly, their quarter circles are towards the front and pointing outwards.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

Put the other rounded plate 1x2 horizontally behind the previous piece.

Collect the following 4 pieces:

2 bright green shafts 2m with twig leaves, (2m means that each of these pieces is about 2 knobs long)

1 flame yellowish orange round plate 2x2 with 1 knob,

and 1 bright red round tile 1x1. (This piece is printed.)

Insert 1 shaft with twig leaves into the right knob of the frontmost rounded plate 1x2.

Put the round tile 1x1 to the left of the previous piece. The print of this piece is a ladybug!

Insert the other shaft with twig leaves into the knob behind the previous piece.

Put the round plate 2x2 with 1 knob on top of the round profile brick on the left edge.

Find 1 medium azure blue plate 1x2 with 2 vertical clasps on long side.

Put it vertically on the leftmost column's second and third knob from the back, clasps to the left.

Find 1 flame yellowish orange curve tile 1x4.

Put it vertically on top of the previous piece. This means it will sit on the leftmost column, starting from the back edge.

Find 1 purple violet cockpit 2x5x2 with shaft. (This piece is actually shaped like a slide.)

Hold it horizontally in front of you, shaft on the right, the left and right edges pointing to the top.

Snap the shaft into the 2 clasps on the left edge of the cat playground, and fold the slide down until it touches the table.

Find 1 pale ocher yellow profile brick 1x2.

Put it vertically on the rightmost column's second and third knob from the back, horizontal grooves to the right.

Find 1 pale ocher yellow brick 1x2 with side connector.

Put it vertically on top of the previous piece, connector pointing to the right.

Put 1 to the left of the first round profile brick.

Skip 1 column to the left, and mount the last one on the same rows as the 2 previous pieces.

Collect the following 3 pieces:

2 pale ocher yellow round profile bricks 2x2 with top cross hole,

and 1 flame yellowish orange round plate 2x2 with 1 knob.

Put the round plate 2x2 with 1 knob on the previous piece.

Put the 2 round profile bricks on the 2 remaining round profile bricks from the previous step.

Find 1 flame yellowish orange flat tile 4x4 with rounded corners and 4 feet.

Put it centered on top of the 2 profile brick stacks we have just created, symmetrically overhanging to the front and back.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 white connector peg 1m with knob, (1m means that this piece is about 1 knob long)

and 1 teal blue tube 2m with middle slot.

Put the tube 2m on the connector sticking out towards the right.

Insert the connector peg 1m into the tube from the right, its knob sticking out towards the right.

Next up, we will assemble the fish toy.

Collect the following 2 pieces:

1 medium stone grey water tap,

and 1 pale lime green fish figurine with knob.

Insert the mouth of the fish into the wide end of the water tap.

Now, insert the pin of the water tap into the hollow knob of the connector peg we have mounted in the previous step.

If done correctly, you should now be able to let the fish toy rotate!

Find 1 silver metallic shovel.

Hold it upright, shovel part to the top, and snap the handle into the clasp pointing to the back in the left half of the cat playground.

You have finished building the entire set! Very well done! It's time to start your cat adventures. Play with the fish toys, let the cats jump from pedestal to pedestal, and if they need to use the litter box, use the flat tile sticking out towards the back to clean it right away. Everything's ready for some "purrfect" adventures!

Enjoy!
